Kubrick Stare’s Sinking channels the raw energy of ’90s grunge with a slightly whiny edge and a defiant attitude, carving out a space that boldly rejects current musical conventions. With an almost Nirvana-esque quality that’s reminiscent of Polly, the track balances haunting introspection with a rebellious undertone.The band cites monumental artists such as The Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees as their inspiration. Kubrick Stare’s sound is a bold reimagination of both traditional grunge and gothic rock, it’s the perfect homage. 

The vocals and instrumentals of Sinking work symbiotically to craft a sound that is raw, intense, and utterly captivating. Libby’s incredible vocal performance seamlessly blends with the track’s layered instrumentals, creating a dynamic interplay that draws listeners deeper into the song’s moody atmosphere. The chorus is especially addictive, thrumming with an emphatic energy that lingers long after the song ends. This balance between voice and instrumentation not only showcases Kubrick Stare’s artistry but also solidifies Sinking as a standout piece that feels both timeless and refreshingly unique. 

Kubrick Stare are astutely named, their music demands your full attention. It’s glaring and undeniably impressive. There’s no escaping the enveloping mood of Sinking, a song that leaves its mark with a tangible sense of atmosphere and intent. It’s almost haunting and certainly leaves an impression on the listener. 

Hailing from the Northwest of England, Kubrick Stare was formed in 2021. The band consists of drummer and songwriter Joe, lead vocalist Libby, bassist Michael and guitarist Beaver. BBC Introducing compared the band’s sound to be close to that of Garbage and Queens Of The Stone Age, Warner Brothers, Scruff of the Neck and Netflix. The band states that they are trying to bring back the Grunge and Alternative era; with striking tracks like Sinking, it looks like a promising start to the journey!
