Lilypad Project’s new album, Bits and Ribbons arrives right when it’s needed. Not too early or too late in the year. This electric escape isn’t just a collection of tracks—it’s a meticulously crafted auditory experience that feels both personal and universal, showcasing Lilypad Project’s ability to innovate while connecting with their audience on a deeply emotional level. With Bits and Ribbons, they’ve not just delivered music; they’ve created a world to explore.
An atmospheric intro leads us into Bits and Ribbons, utilising sound to create a physical experience of the album – it’s reminiscent of walking deeper into a dark forest – acting as a metaphor and a taster of what the entire album encapsulates. It seems to thrive on its ability to evoke a visceral, tactile experience through sound, transforming the act of listening into something physical.
The aptly named, “Fantasy on Synths”, with its electronic-heavy soundscape, conjures an imaginative journey through otherworldly realms crafted entirely from the tones and textures unique to synthesisers. Whether you hear echoes of retro sci-fi soundtracks or modern ambient landscapes, this piece likely feels like stepping into a cinematic, audio-driven dream.
“The Great Box of Nothing” captures the emptiness that the song is striving for, a hollowness is present throughout the track, as it weaves in and out of a spacy synth, it’s quite moving at times and definitely makes you think. The track’s emotional impact seems to come from its ability to hold space for both silence and sound, emphasising absence as much as presence. It’s a piece that resonates deeply, inviting listeners to ponder not only the void but also what it might contain or signify.
