The Sick Fix: Obscene – Single Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The modern-day rock’n’roll scene has been long due for a revival. We’ve seen different eras of rock come through and then subsequently fall out, from the classic rock craze of the 70s, the glam rock of the 80s, to the grunge era of the 90s. But what rock genre will take the modern 2020 music scene and turn it on its head?  The Sick Fix, with their brand new song “Obscene,” has an answer. Borrowing elements from all different types of music, they bring a brand new sound that is unique from any other up-and-coming indie band heard before. With an unmistakable punk sound, they are able to transform simple melodies into head-trashing, energy-filled rock anthems.

The band hails from Manchester, where all its members are in Year 11. Even though they were formed this year, this is the 3rd single to be released by the band, and it is certainly not the last. They search day and night for venues and stages to share their craft and display some of the enigmatic energy and power they possess through their music.

The song “Obscene” is incredibly powerful and immediately draws the listener in. The melodies themselves are simple, a quality held by many punk songs, but are given character by the brash and thunderous effects of the guitar and drums, being played respectively by Alfie Radford and Ted Wright. Perfectly complementing the weaving guitar licks is Oliver Jacques on bass. The guitar effects are loud and distorted, creating a sense of chaos and urgency. The drums are fast and loud, providing a constant beat that drives the song forward.  The bass provides a solid foundation for the other instruments to build upon, creating a powerful wall of sound. The vocals are harsh and edgy, as sung by frontman Leo Mitchell, and convey the emotions of the lyrics. The song is intense and cathartic, providing a powerful and emotional experience. It is the perfect track for anyone looking to express their inner turmoil. The lyrics themselves are similar to the vulgar and coarse lyrics sung by many other punk household names, such as the Sex Pistols or the Dead Kennedys. The melody and instrumentation of the song are catchy and infectious, making it difficult to turn away from. The Sick Fix’s track “Obscene” marks the arrival of a bold new voice in the modern rock scene.

With their raw, unapologetic punk sound and infectious energy, the band channels the spirit of classic punk while adding a fresh, contemporary twist that sets them apart from other indie acts. Despite being a relatively new band, they show remarkable musical maturity, blending chaos and melody with finesse. The driving guitars, pounding drums, and gritty vocals create a powerful sonic experience that’s impossible to ignore. As they continue to carve out their own path, The Sick Fix proves they are one to watch, bringing the intensity and rebellion of punk back into the mainstream with a sound that’s as audacious as it is addictive. “Obscene” is only the beginning, and if this track is any indication, The Sick Fix is here to make their mark on the modern rock landscape.
