IT’S IRRELEVANT: FEVER, EP REVIEW

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Once again gracing the streets of East London and beyond with their unmistakable pop-punk sound, latest single ‘Fever’ proves that It’s Irrelevant are far from what their title might suggest.

The summer of 2023 saw It’s Irrelevant share their debut EP, ‘Little Lives Part 1’, four lively songs establishing their signature sound of upbeat pop-punk with hints of alt-rock. With next single ‘Warpath’, the band broke all of their own rules with organised chaos, taking a bold stride towards their next era which is set to land them at their sequel EP ‘Little Lives Part 2’ at the end of this year.

Following this path, the band’s latest single ’Fever’ channels what they have learnt from their experience of writing the collage of inspirations that is ‘Warpath’ into something with structure and convention while still staying true to themselves and keeping listeners on their toes.

Fever’ begins with softness and ambience, unsuspecting and calm, before bursting to life with sharp riffs, crunching guitars, a bouncy baseline, and lively drums. Along the way, It’s Irrelevant have credited pop-punk legends like Green Day, Blink 182 and Sum 41 as key inspirations in their songwriting process, which is particularly salient in ‘Fever’ with its energetic, catchy and rich composition. As well as these classic inspirations though, It’s Irrelevant are still very much their own thing, with darker tones and a heavier side like what is seen on ‘Warpath’ can be heard creeping in at times.

The track’s production is also a key element of what makes it such a fun listening experience. Many songs of this genre, while having great ambition and strong vision, can be let down by a flat, muddy production as a result of all the competing elements. ‘Fever’, however, showcases rich, multi-dimensional production in which each instrument and layer shines through with vibrance.

If ‘Fever’ is anything to go by, It’s Irrelevant are ones to watch out for, and their upcoming EP is bound to be an exciting, satisfying step on their musical journey.
