FLORENTENES: ‘GLUE’ SINGLE REVIEW

Rating: 5 out of 5.

With its Arctic Monkeys-esque intro and its raw, yet polished, indie-rock sound, Florentenes have yet again created another big hit with their new single, Glue. Seducing the listener with the opening hypnotic bars, Glue will no doubt be the single that attracts a whole new audience to Florentenes.

Originating from Greater Manchester, Florentenes are a young rock band who are heading for big things. The four piece (consisting of vocalist Will Smith, guitarist Luke Holding, bassist Harry Stubbs, and drummer Liam Fiddy) are quickly becoming a household name to many indie rock fans, especially with their next headline show on the 24th of October at The Lodge, Manchester. Building on the success of their debut single Gone and amassing a strong following at their gigs across the north west, Florentenes are set to open for The Royston Club and Jamie Webster on their UK tours this autumn – bringing their authentic Mancunian style to more fans across the country.

With a sound influenced by legends such as The Strokes and Pink Floyd, Will’s vocals and Florentenes‘ unique tone can be heard and felt throughout the whole single. The gentle guitar intro sets a calming feel perfectly matched with the louche laid back drumming. Glue starts as a slow retro-sounding ballad with no hint of what’s to come. As the chorus kicks in, the pace of the song changes and the sharp riffs and passionate vocals take the track onto a whole new level. While it begins with an accepting ambience of defeat, that same emotion is turned into anger and frustration as the track progresses, the signature style of Florentenes.

Drawing inspiration from Arctic Monkeys’ Star Treatment and Band On The Run by Wings, Glue should be in every music fans playlist. As talented songwriters, Florentenes gave an insight into their lyrics, ” Lyrically, its kind of about the frustrations and limitations of my song writing and how I’d have wished to write songs about anything that springs to mind but feeling unable to do so.” You definitely feel the sense of frustration in this track.

Talking about the making of Glue, Florentenes expressed how fond they are of their new single.

We’re really proud of it musically because everybody has their moment to shine in this song.
