Fear of Marko, a Manchester based Alt-Pop artist released their new single ‘Mood Ring’ on October 2nd. This single comes after a busy summer performing at Reading Festival and his prior release ‘Teeth’ in April of this year. The track emanates the artist’s signature sound – gritty rock with an electronic twist. Starting with a grungy chord progression, we as listeners are then transported into Marko’s world of riffs on heavy guitar – accompanied by strong lyrics and synthy pop vocals.
The song is very reminiscent of the sounds of the 2000’s/2010’s, mirroring the sounds of great acts like Paramore and Grimes. This combination of punky lyrics combined with electronic embellishments definitely make Fear Of Marko stand out and captivate us with this original sound. The music video released alongside this track resonates with that feeling also – the song’s nostalgic aesthetic was perfectly captured by Seanen Middleton. The VHS like effect, fish eye lens work and bright but grungy colour palettes complement Fear Of Marko’s dark yet relatable lyrics, completely transporting listeners into Marko’s mind.
You can catch ‘Mood Ring’ and the rest of Marko’s releases live at New Century Unplugged on October 10th!
