CROOK ON THE WALL: ‘THESE CRACKED STREETS’ SINGLE REVIEW

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Crook On The Wall are a new, exciting indie rock band in the Manchester scene with a sonic personality harking back to the glory days of Manchester music. Ranging from ages 15-17 this incredibly young group has already made a name for themselves with multiple gigs at Manchester Academy as well as exciting radio play for their first single ‘Imperial Mind’ on Radio X. Following on from their recent show at Manchester Rebellion, Crook On The Wall have now released their 3rd single ‘These Cracked Streets’ on the 25th of May.

With ‘These Cracked Streets’ the band manage to put forward an incredibly energetic look into the idea of “living in the now”. This song highlights the massive amount of energy and passion that this band can bring to their music, truly providing a showcase of what a young band can bring to the table. This track immediately hits you with the powerfully raw instrumentation bringing you straight into the underground world that the band has emerged from, bringing with them a spirited look into the experiences that can be found from building from the bottom upwards.

However, with the band’s youth can come a slight dramatic dissonance when venturing into areas that would usually be experienced later in life, in this track they mention the ‘taxman is coming’ on various occasions, which might be perceived strangely coming from a group of people that are probably too young to have many interactions with taxes in general. That being said, this is only a minor criticism and one that can be quite easily overlooked due to the bands talent and potential that is poured into this track with gloriously punchy results.

Crook On The Wall are only at the beginning of their career in the music industry. The band are set to play Venture Fest on the 27th of July and are lined up to announce more gigs and content aligned with their high aspirations. This is only the start of the exciting journey that this band finds themselves on at such a young age, and they are definitely worth keeping an eye on.
