Indie-pop sensation, Abby Roberts is back with her highly anticipated EP, obscura. The new EP firmly establishes her as a unique and promising indie pop artist on the brink of worldwide stardom. It features previously unveiled tracks like imposter syndrome (co-written with Halsey), the emotive volatile, and the ethereal indie piece – lose myself in you (featuring re6ce). In addition to these, the EP introduces gorgeous new songs idea of you and protocol, further cementing Abby’s artistic talent and potential.
The song imposter syndrome delves deep into the intense emotions surrounding self-doubt and personal struggles. Abby collaborated with Halsey to create this track, drawing from her own experience of feeling inadequate and out of place during her first writing trip. She opened up to Halsey about battling feelings of being a fraud and not measuring up, to which they empathised, revealing that they, too, had similar struggles. Together, they captured these emotions and gave birth to imposter syndrome. The song draws inspiration from the dark, moody sounds of 80s gothic music, infused with a modern pop twist.
Through lose myself in you, Abby artfully narrates the aftermath of a breakup, delving into the complexities of navigating post-breakup emotions with raw honesty and vulnerability. The track’s introspective lyrics offer a window into Abby’s innermost feelings, capturing the essence of heartache and self-discovery with a remarkable depth of emotion. The collaboration with re6ce elevates the song to new heights, infusing it with a rich sonic landscape that perfectly complements Abby’s emotive storytelling.

volatile is a slow-tempo but angry song that delves into the complexities of a friendship ending. The track talks about a toxic friendship in which one friend loves drama and seeks validation from others. The chorus captures these feelings with the lyrics:
So you drag all your friends through your drama again; Oh, you love attention, So you play the victim, And I let it slide one too many times; You’re so volatile
idea of you explores the theme of infatuation and the pain that comes from loving someone who may not feel the same way. Abby poignantly expresses the internal conflict of cherishing the idea of a person rather than the reality. Lines like “I fall too hard for the idea of you” resonate deeply, as they articulate a common yet often unspoken aspect of romantic longing.
protocol is undoubtedly my favourite track from obscura. The song boasts an incredibly catchy melody and is unquestionably one of Abby’s most outstanding releases. The lead guitar riff, though simple, is very catchy and blends seamlessly with the clean drum beats. Abby Roberts‘ signature echo-ey vocals, a trademark of her production technique, beautifully enhance the song’s lively and upbeat essence.
After delivering an electrifying headline performance at Colours Hoxton last week, the incredibly talented Abby is set to grace the stage at the highly anticipated All Things Go Festival in September. This marks a significant milestone for Abby as it will be her first-ever performance at a US festival, with more exciting live dates on the horizon. Notably, Abby has previously supported renowned artists such as Halsey, Beabadoobee, Pale Waves, The Marias, and Gus Dapperton. Her remarkable talent has also been showcased at esteemed events including Romania’s Summer In The City 2023, Brighton’s Great Escape Festival, and the iconic Reading & Leeds Festival.
