Nxdia’s ‘Lovemesick’ Is a Fever Dream of Obsession, Euphoria and Collapse | EP Review

Rating: 5 out of 5.

The EP unfolds like a tightly wound spiral; each track digs deeper into the psychology of obsession, intimacy, and emotional fallout, with sharper sonic detail and a stronger sense of narrative progression.

Opening with ‘Lovemesick’, a track that thrives on contrast. Punchy, club-ready percussion creates an immediate sense of euphoria, but there’s an undercurrent of tension woven into the production – subtle distortions and layered vocals that feel slightly off-balance. Nxdia’s delivery dances between breathy vulnerability and urgent repetition, mirroring the all-consuming nature of a crush that tips into fixation. The chorus hits like a dopamine rush, catchy but restless, as if it’s chasing a high it can’t quite sustain.

Anchor’ pivots into darker territory, both sonically and emotionally. The clean edges of the opener dissolve into fuzzy, overdriven guitar textures that crackle and swell, paired with cavernous reverb that makes everything feel distant and submerged. The pacing slows, giving space for unease to settle in. Lyrically, it leans into dependency, the push and pull of wanting stability while feeling weighed down by it. Nxdia’s vocals feel more fragmented here, occasionally submerged beneath the instrumental, reinforcing that sense of being lost inside the relationship rather than in control of it.

Forged from the wreck of unhealthy coping mechanisms and toxic cravings that Nxdia found themselves grappling with amidst a relationship disintegration, they explain:

Lovemesick is a manifesto on how I see love, dedicated to the fuck ups of my love life. It’s a collection of dark love songs with even darker endings – my way of raving through the whirlwind of heartbreak and the instinctual, human reactions to that sort of loss.”

Balance Beam’ strips things back just enough to let the emotional weight land harder. There’s a tighter, more rhythmically restrained arrangement, percussive elements feel sharper, almost brittle, while the instrumentation leaves pockets of space that make every lyric hit with precision. The metaphor of walking a line runs throughout, capturing the instability of a relationship on the verge of collapse. Nxdia’s vocals are at their most direct here, less stylised, more exposed, cutting through themes of self-sabotage, denial, and the quiet realisation that something has gone too far. It’s tense, controlled, and emotionally exacting.

The closing track, ‘Fuck Me Up’, releases all that tension in a burst of chaos. Sonically, it leans fully into a rave-like intensity, distorted basslines, rapid-fire beats, and abrasive textures that feel intentionally overwhelming. The structure is looser, almost collapsing in on itself at points, which adds to the sense of reckless abandon. Vocals are pushed to the edge, shouted, layered, and sometimes deliberately blown out in the mix—blurring the line between pleasure and destruction. It’s not just about sensuality; it’s about excess, about chasing feeling at any cost. The track doesn’t resolve so much as combust, leaving behind a lingering sense of disorientation.

Taken together, the EP feels cohesive not just in theme but in its sonic evolution; from polished, high-energy infatuation to something far more fractured and volatile. It’s a descent that feels intentional, with each track peeling back another layer of emotional and sonic intensity.

In May, Nxdia will bring Lovemesick to life with the Fever Run, a series of three intimate UK shows designed to mirror the EP’s emotional volatility in a live setting. The tour begins at London’s Colours on 3 May, before moving to Manchester’s Deaf Institute and Bristol’s Rough Trade. Tickets available to purchase HERE.
