Selling out their 2022 EP vinyl pressing, Virgins have quickly become a promising band to watch in Ireland especially. Their latest single, set to be released on the 3rd of April, will prove this statement greatly. B l o o m s is an ethereal excursion through shimmering textures, hypnotic melodies, and an undercurrent of raw emotional intensity. From the moment the track begins, it wraps the listener in a haze of reverb-soaked guitars and dreamy vocals, reminiscent of classic shoegaze yet distinctly modern in its execution.
The song’s structure is a slow-burning ascent—starting with delicate, floating verses that gradually build in momentum. The glide guitar techniques and reverse delays create an otherworldly atmosphere, pulling the listener deeper into its sonic landscape. As the chorus blooms (pun intended), the layers of fuzz-drenched guitars and soaring vocals reach a euphoric peak, delivering a cathartic release that feels both expansive and intimate.
What makes b l o o m s stand out is its attention to detail. The production, handled by Simon Francis (known for his work with Kylie Minogue and Ellie Goulding), ensures every element is balanced and immersive. Meanwhile, mastering by Simon Scott of Slowdive – a band that helped define the shoegaze genre – adds an authentic, polished touch to the song’s dreamy aesthetic.
Despite its deep shoegaze roots, B l o o m s doesn’t rely on nostalgia alone. Virgins inject a fresh perspective into the genre, creating something both familiar and innovative. The result is a track that feels like a hazy daydream – melancholic yet uplifting, distant yet deeply personal.
Fans of Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, and Beach House will likely find themselves drawn to b l o o m s. The track is an immersive experience that lingers long after the last note fades.
