THE 9075 LIVE AT LIVERPOOL’S ZANZIBAR

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The first tribute band to honour The 1975 held their UK tour at the Zanzibar in Liverpool, and I was fortunate enough to be invited. As a fellow fan of The 1975, I can confidently say that the performance captured the essence of a true 1975 concert. From the lead singer occasionally mixing up the lyrics to the audience passionately belting out the songs and dancing the night away, it was an unforgettable experience. I highly suggest that any fan of The 1975 check out this tribute band.

The evening kicked off with the iconic introduction that fans know and love, followed by “Looking for Somebody to Love.” The setlist included a mix of the band’s most beloved hits like “Sex” and “Chocolate,” as well as some lesser-known tracks like “You,” ensuring there was something for everyone. The band’s sound was spot on, with the lead vocalist closely resembling Matty’s singing style. It felt even more authentic when he stumbled over the lyrics, making it feel like a genuine 1975 show. The band themselves interacted with the crowd keeping us all entertained while perfectly encapsulating the 1975 sound. The crowd was fully engaged, filling the room with energy as they danced and sang along. The night was ideal for both devoted fans of The 1975 and casual listeners alike. I wholeheartedly recommend this band to anyone who enjoys The 1975, especially to those eagerly anticipating Matty’s return. They beautifully captured the incredible fan base and sense of community that The 1975 fosters at their concerts. This band serves as a fantastic and affordable alternative for those looking forward to The 1975‘s comeback.

The evening wrapped up with the iconic track sex that had everyone in the room joining in. By the time the night concluded, the audience was buzzing with excitement and energy. The band delivered an incredible show, and fans were thrilled to sing along to their beloved tracks. After the performance, the band took the time to connect with their fans, allowing people to line up for a brief chat and snap a photo. I had the pleasure of meeting the guys, who were all friendly and inviting. I also had the opportunity to ask them a few questions to learn more about their journey and background.

Why choose to form a 1975 tribute band?

Well, it started out as a jam, and we played sex as it was big in Italy at the time. It was the best song in the jam, so we decided to play more 1975 songs for my birthday. Then 10 1975 songs turned into 20 and then one our videos got viral of us playing sex and Mathew picked us up.” – Carlo

What are the future plans for the band?
Plan to tour and meet fans as much as possible to help the fans and ourselves express ourselves then bring out our original music.” – Carlo

Favourite songs to perform?

I highly recommend that anyone who enjoys The 1975, whether you’re a die-hard fan or just a casual listener, check them out live. Regardless of whether you’re familiar with all their lore or just know a few of their songs, the band will have you dancing and leave you feeling joyful.
