PALE WAVES SHARE ‘PERFUME’ ALONGSIDE ‘SMITTEN’ ALBUM ANNOUNCEMENT

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Pale Waves have just released their latest single and music video for Perfume, along with the exciting news of their fourth studio album, “Smitten.” The album is set to be released on September 20 via Dirty Hit. Perfume is the lead single from the album and has a confessional and sapphic theme inspired by the 1980s. It debuted as BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record and beautifully captures the feeling of being deeply charmed by someone.

Perfume is a beautiful sapphic goth-pop song with ’80s influences, described by vocalist Heather Baron-Gracie as

the perfect introduction into the new world we’ve created.

The song captures the feeling of being deeply in love with someone, blending elements of The Cure, Cocteau Twins and the Cranberries. The surreal music video showcases the band performing in a colourful labyrinth garden.

It is refreshing to see Pale Waves embrace their original sound, infusing it with synth-gaze elements and incorporating more mature, heartfelt lyrics. Heather’s use of women’s pronouns and her declaration “I wanna make you my girl, I wanna make you my world” marks a significant evolution from the band’s earlier work. Moreover, Hugo’s guitar solo on the track adds a nostalgic touch and brings the track to a brilliant close, It’s very reminiscent of the 80s and sounds like it should be a part of one of the iconic soundtracks of films by John Hughes.
