FEAR OF MARKO debuts as a boundary-breaking artist, bringing a much-needed breath of fresh air to the current alternative and pop music scene, with his new song Teeth.
Teeth is a captivating musical journey that hooks listeners from the very start. With introspective and hard-hitting lyrics that capture the essence of the singer’s inner turmoil, Teeth takes listeners on an emotional roller coaster that explores themes of uncertainty, chaos, and the desire to live on the edge.
Hailing from the vibrant Manchester underground music scene, FEAR OF MARKO, also known as Marcus Connolly, first made his presence known on the internet in 2018 by sharing his demos and short films, quickly amassing a small but passionate following. After receiving a distribution deal from AWAL, a division of Sony Music Entertainment, in 2019, he released two mixtapes online before settling on the moniker FEAR OF MARKO in 2022. FEAR OF MARKO blends emotive and provocative lyrics with captivating hooks and unconventional electronic rock production, positioning himself between a conventional emo popstar and a cutting-edge trailblazer, and has said he is influenced by the American grunge and alternative music of Deftones and Nirvana from the 90s and 00s. In addition to these classic influences, the artist has also taken inspiration from contemporary acts such as Iann Dior, WILLOW, PinkPantheress, and The Kid LAROI.
This track stands out thanks to its genre-bending approach, blending classic elements with fresh innovation to produce a one-of-a-kind sound that will surely captivate rock enthusiasts of every stripe. The daring and immersive chorus injects a rebellious note with a hint of somberness, providing a striking counterpoint to the gentler, contemplative verses. The lyrics of the song delve into themes of self-destruction and megalomania, all of which are enhanced by Marko’s signature hook-heavy writing style. Marko’s honesty and vulnerability shine through on Teeth, as he shares his personal struggles with uncertainty and the challenges of navigating life’s ups and downs. Marko opened up to give an insight on what Teeth means to him: “Teeth is a song I wrote when I was in a really chaotic place, I felt like I had no idea what I was going to do with my future and everything just felt pointless. It felt like the perfect introduction to myself as an artist. I think as an artist I usually steer towards the idea of escapism as someone who has never felt like they fit in anywhere.”
