Upcoming Manchester four-piece, Westside Cowboy, is undeniably one to watch, coming off recent tours with Geese and Black Country, New Road– it’s no surprise that their debut album, ‘It Goes On’ is as sprightly and heartfelt as them.
The album begins with beloved single, Kick Stones (The Boys) and is followed by Paperchains and Dobro, three full of life tracks, with catchy chorus’ and lively bridges, perfect indie anthems that begin the debut with a punch. Things are then toned down with Big Wheels, allowing the album to breathe. In true Westside Cowboy fashion, the track has a mounting outro, making for a raw and mesmerising result.
Maybe the most distinctive tune of the debut is Coyote, an eclectic and textured track with unique lyrics and a different, more talkative vocal- paired with a crashing outro. As we’ve seen from their previous EP’s, WSCB like to end their tracklists with more tender numbers, and It Goes On is no different. The albums penultimate tracks, Patchwork and Take My Leaving As I Love You, are emotional and melancholic and paired with somber lyrics, make for a gut-punching result. The closing track, You Could Have Died There On the Dancefloor, is a perfect end for It Goes On, with sweet harmonies, crashing cymbals and an explosive finish, it is quintessentially Westside Cowboy.
With an impending tour across the UK and Europe, and a growing social media presence, there is no doubt we’ll be seeing a lot more of the Manchester quartet.
