NOTHING NEW – BETH HUBBARD, SINGLE REVIEW

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Beth Hubbard an artist from Hailing (East Yorkshire) has already made her mark in the music scene with her debut EP Sapphic but is ready for even greater things with her new single ‘Nothing New’ .Drawing inspiration from artists like Paramore, Chappell Roan and HAIM her latest track blends indie rock with sharp pop elements. This single stands out distinctly from other in the industry. In today’s music landscape it can be challenging to avoid the trap of genre pop songs, especially with artist being able to record at the mere push of a button. However, Beth’s new single avoids this common pitfall. Her captivating songwriting and powerful vocals alongside a compelling instrumentation, made this song stand out in my playlist.

The song began with a brief introduction that evokes a sense of nostalgia reminiscent of an opening scene in a coming-of-age film. Soon energetic drums and Beth’s powerful vocals propel us into the verse taking an already lively track to new heights. Her powerful vocals and charged song writing captivate you, making you hang on to every word she sings. While the lively drumbeat keeps your feet moving without a conscious thought.

Moreover, the song is bittersweet with its joyful and energetic melody contrasted by its melancholic lyrics. The lyrics tell the tale of Beth realising that a relation is faltering out and her commitment is not reciprocated but she assures them its ‘nothing new’. The powerful beat and optimistic tone to the song offers a sort of reclamation to the situation. Transforming what could be a sad tune into a declaration of Beth strengths in reclaiming her situation, making it a perfect song for anyone navigating the complexities of love right now. The flawless blend of a bitter story full of reclamation and strong spirited instrumental adds a depth to the song. This further sets it aside from the regurgitated music that can dominate the music scene.

The song is bound to be stuck in your head and any fans of rock or pop should definitely add this one to your playlist. Whether you want a song to dance to or song to crash out about relationships this song fits the situation perfectly.
