THE DONNYS: THE MAILING LIST – SINGLE REVIEW

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Irish rock band, The Donnys, have always thrived on raw energy, and their latest single, The Mailing List, is no exception. Taking cues from garage rock greats like MC5 and The Stooges, the band channels their restless energy into a sharp, no-nonsense track that makes an impact from the first note. Clocking in at a punchy three and a half minutes, it’s a blend of raucous rhythm and blues, infused with a sense of urgency that pulls you in right from the beginning.

Built around a driving 12-bar blues progression, the song kicks off with an insistent lead guitar hook, quickly giving way to a stomping rhythm section. A well-placed key change in the middle offers a brief moment of restraint before the band launches back in with full force, blazing guitars, relentless drums, and a bassline that not only anchors the track but also plays off the vocals in a way that feels both chaotic and perfectly controlled.

It’s a theme that fits well within the song’s restless, cathartic energy. While The Donnys proudly wear their classic influences on their sleeves (think MC5, Thin Lizzy, Dead Boys), they also take inspiration from modern Irish acts like New Pagans and Adore

The DIY spirit runs deep in The Mailing List. from the two-pence Irish stamp-inspired artwork to the promo video featuring footage of a West Cork postman cycling his route in 1975. Even the recording process kept things raw and unfiltered, with the band tracking the song live in Oisín’s house, running cables through rooms to capture the energy in its purest form. No click tracks, no studio trickery, just a full-throttle garage rock performance that hits hard and leaves an impression. The result? A high-voltage, no-frills ‘rock ‘n’ roll’ anthem that feels both urgent and electrifying. With The Mailing List, The Donnys prove once again that they’re not here to play it safe. They’re
