Up-and-coming band Courting have announced dates for their 2025 tour in the build-up to their highly anticipated new album Lust for Life, Or: ‘How to Thread the Needle and Come Out the Other Side to Tell the Story’. Following the release of their debut and sophomore albums, with influence and collaboration from post-punk icons The Cribs, Courting have undoubtedly been tipped as ones to watch in 2025. If the new single After You is anything to go by, the release of their third album on 14th March is sure to be a groundbreaking development for the four-piece.
Courting are a post-punk band formed in 2018, consisting of Sean Murphy-O’Neill (vocals/guitar), Sean Thomas (drums), Joshua Cope (guitar), and Connor McCann (bass). Since their formation, they have gone from strength to strength. They released their debut album Guitar Music in 2022, which NME called “one of the year’s greatest debuts,” followed closely by the rock marvel that is New Last Name. Standout tracks “The Wedding” and “Throw” are teeming with that playful Jarman influence, which makes for outstanding satirical rock music.
After You suggests the new album is a move towards a heavier sound than in previous projects – a shift that is well anticipated by their cult following. Sean Murphy-O’Neill described the single as “an exercise in direct songwriting, an attempt to create something very straightforward. We wanted the wall of guitars and the drums to feel almost hypnotic. A lot of the album is about the idea of duality, and lyrically, the song can be read in either a stalkerish voice or a romantic voice. It’s all up to you,” suggesting listeners can expect Lust for Life to be led by binary storytelling, leaving room for fans to craft their own listening experience.
The new album promises to lend itself to an unmissable live experience. Courting will take to the stage for the first time at Leeds’ Belgrave Music Hall on 15th March, rounding up in London on 8th April. Tickets are on sale now – don’t miss it!
