Following a summer of stage-hopping, Stone Cold Sweethearts are far from pulling the brakes as they mark a new era with the release of their latest indie-rock single, the anthemic ‘Up For It Now’.
The group emerged from Lincoln last year, instantly adding much needed vibrancy and excitement to their local scene. Since then Stone Cold Sweethearts have grown beyond their humble hometown roots, recently taking on impressive stages such as at Derbyshire’s Y-Not festival a few months ago. ‘Up For It Now’ is a bold testament to this evolution with its fearless grit and satisfying depth, adding to Sugarhouse Producers’ already-impressive portfolio of exciting fresh indie artists they have recently collaborated with (others include the likes of Corella and VENUS GRRRLS.
The track is led by fast paced, scratchy guitar strums, which are solidified in accompanying deeper notes and flourishes of the instrument’s high end, creating a texture and depth not unlike that of Wunderhorse. Accompanied by a lively, dynamic drum arrangement from Sam Milton, the instrumentals drive through the song with immense power, surrendering only to a brief reduction in volume for tension in the last minute of the song before climbing back up to an impressive crescendo.
The band’s two vocalists, Aidan Betts and Joe Baker, deliver their parts with vigour and passion, both adopting their own distinct vocal styles that, rather than blending and harmonising, contrast each other strikingly in a way that contributes to the song’s satisfying grit.
Claiming that this latest single is “head and shoulders above the rest and will be the start of something very special”, Stone Cold Sweethearts had set expectations high for ‘Up For It Now’. However, with the song’s rich texture and immense energy, the band have fearlessly proven that they are in fact ‘Up For’ this ambitious new era, making sure that fans are rightfully excited for whatever may come from them next.
