HOLLINS: ‘SHE SAID’ – SINGLE REVIEW

Filled with their unique sound and style, Hollins recently released their third single She Said, a track full of catchy melodies and infectious grooves.

With the disco sounds of the 70s injected throughout it, She Said is easily a song that should be on everyone’s playlist. The laid back feel to the track flows so well alongside its deep lyrics in the verses. She Said is one of those songs that could be played at a party and by the end of the track, everybody would be singing along. Having a similar vibe to songs like Dead In The Disco by Arthur Hill and Alfie Templeman’s Happiness In Liquid Form, She Said could be the single that attracts a younger teenage audience to the band’s music.

Opening the song with a funk inspired riff, She Said hooks the listener within the first few seconds. The lyrics of the verses delve into a small crisis of identity with a lack of knowledge of where to go next whereas the chorus follows the narrative of uncertainty and a sense of yearning towards the possibilities of what could happen in the future of this relationship and connection. Throughout the whole song the theme of unknown when it comes to love is apparent especially in the exaggerated repeating lyrics of “she said tell me where to go, she said tell me I don’t know”. Overall, She Said really boasts Hollins‘ storytelling skills as well as their incredible instrumentation, and this song will surely open up the eyes of many music fans to the band.

Hollins– a Darwen based band – are relatively new in the industry, but in the few months they have been making music, the band have released two other singles prior to She Said (as well as their Late Than Never EP). With live shows full of energy, and fans across the north west flocking to their gigs at places such as Sunbird Records, it won’t be long until Hollins are selling out bigger venues. After their debut gig in April with the supporting acts of Florentenes and Corey Devine, Hollins are returning to Sunbird Records on the 28th of September, for another one of their ‘electrifying live performances’ guaranteed to make you dance along to the band’s trademark sound of genre blending.
