THE MARIGOLDS: ‘INTO MY HEAD’ – SINGLE REVIEW

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

The Marigolds are a revved up energetic punk band hailing from Liverpool. Finding an outlet for their inner feelings and emotions in the brutal live performances they bring to the north of the UK, the band found themselves a following after playing numerous venues such as The Quarry, Retro and Royal Park Cellars along side the release of multiple singles. After once again venturing into the studio, The Marigolds have produced a collection of songs for the coming year, with ‘Into My Head’ being the first.

With ‘Into My HeadThe Marigolds take their relentlessly driving guitars and explosive percussion and pair them with a more melodically focused chorus. Packed full of intense personality this song comfortably fits in with the rest of the bands vulnerable discography while taking a more positive look into the inner workings of the band members through honest and piercing lyricism. These dramatic lyrics are put forward through an incredibly characterful vocal performance from Joe Green which overflows with genuine emotion.

Into My Head’ builds in intensity throughout the track, growing to a screeching crescendo in the latter half of the song providing an incredibly heavy soundscape of The Marigolds own creation. However, while the growing nature of the track does add some dynamic flair, the song is too long. With a run time of nearly five minutes there are sections of ‘Into My Head’ where you’re just waiting for it to move on – it would have greatly benefited from some trimming down.

Nevertheless ‘Into My Head’ is an immensely energetic addition to The Marigolds growing portfolio of ferocious punk music and an exciting sign of things to come for this new collection of music. The Marigolds are definitely a band to keep an eye on as they continue to gig around the UK and go on to release the rest of these songs.
