After releasing their biggest and best EP yet, Florentenes played another sold out show last night at local grassroots venue The Snug in Atherton!
Opening the night was welsh band Glass Angels, and their yearning and desperate sound instantly drew me in. Their performance was absolutely incredible and I must admit I hadn’t heard of them before their set, but I left as a new fan!

Just as the sun set outside, the main act Florentenes graced the stage, starting their set with- my personal favourite- Madeline. The venue was bouncing and the crowd were loving every minute of it! Their latest EP ‘Breaking News’ was played in full and every track was greeted with cheers and chants. With phone torches swaying and mosh pits forming, the crowd certainly enjoyed the set and adored every single song!
From Liam’s complex yet confident drumbeats to Harry’s driving bass line, the band blend so well that it’s easy to forget they haven’t been playing together for 20 years. Frontman and guitarist Will has such insane stage presence and vocal talent that he has to be one of the best right now in the Manchester music scene!
Florentenes’ ability to switch between fiery tracks like The Gun to the more laid back Can I Look Up To You? is so impressive, especially as the crowd were equally entranced with both! I was lucky enough to see Florentenes play The Snug in March 2024 when they had just released Gone, and to see their transformation and growth from then to now “definitely” feels full circle (as guitarist Luke put it). I have said it before and I will continue to say it again, Florentenes are going to go far and I can’t wait to see what’s next- especially after hearing such amazing unreleased tracks last night! If you get the opportunity, I wholeheartedly recommend seeing Florentenes before they’re selling out arenas!
